The 31st July Self-Assessment payment deadline is fast approaching. If you make Payments on Account, your second payment for the 2025/26 tax year must be paid by this date.
If you miss the deadline, interest may be charged, so it's worth checking now whether you need to make a payment.
You will usually need to make Payments on Account unless:
your last Self-Assessment tax bill was under £1,000, or
you paid more than 80% of your tax through PAYE or other deductions.
If paying your tax bill in full feels difficult, don't put it off. HMRC offers payment plans for eligible taxpayers, which can help you spread the cost into more manageable amounts.
It also pays to think ahead. Filing your tax return well before January can help you understand your tax position early and avoid unnecessary stress later on.
